Presidents Report 28 August 2019

Hi Everyone,

Our guest speaker last week was Peter Wiltshire - Darebin Parklands Ranger

The Darebin Creek is 50 kilometres long. and starts in Wollert meeting the Yarra River near Alphington. We were treated with a wonderful history lesson of the area and its progress through history to todays activities the park offers.

It is well worth a visit.

RLI:

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) - Part 1 starts on the 29th September if anyone is interested in attending – it is the only program scheduled for this Rotary year.

Shelter Box:

Shelter box’s vision is to see a world where no family is without shelter after disaster.

Right now, the response teams are working in Paraguay and Bangladesh to provide shelter for families affected by flooding.

To support Shelter Box you may want to sign up for the Kangaroo Island Trek, the Kokoda Trek or, if you fancy going several extra miles, the TCS New York Marathon!

Trekking and running aren't everyone's cup of tea, so you may like to join the growing ranks of regular donors.

Rotary fellowship event – 16th to 28th January 2020

A 12 days event commencing from Mangalore (India) that can either be a motorcycle ride or a four wheel drive. The ride will cover 4 Rotary Districts, many Rotary Clubs along with temples, churches, Tiger Reserves , forests, Beaches and via some breath taking beautiful roads in the lap of nature.

ARH:

After the sudden and tragic loss of Associate Professor Allison Milner last week in the storms, when a tree fell on her car, our thoughts go out to Allison's family, friends and colleagues.

Allison started her PhD on suicide prevention with funding support from Australian Rotary Health in 2008. Her PhD study was the first to identify a relationship between globalisation and population-level rates of suicide. A tragic loss.

Thought of the Week:

Helen Kelle, from Disaster Aid

"Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”
